I think I love Dr. Simeons even more now than ever!
In my research for a project I'm working on, I came across a quote of Dr. Simeons responding to criticism of his protocol. This quote has been mistakenly cited as appearing in The Lancet. But it did not appear there. Instead, after a few days of relentless research, I found it in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
In the response some 47 years ago, he has this to say this about hCG and a VLCD (Very Low Calorie Diet -- 500 calories/day):
“What so many investigators seem to overlook is that human chorionic gonadotrophin as such has no weight-reducing action whatsoever, nor has this ever been claimed to be the case. In fact, those quite exceptional patients who have the willpower to stay on a 500 calorie diet for forty days without human chorionic gonadotrophin often lose more weight than those who are receiving it; but they look drawn and haggard and regain their weight rapidly as soon as they stop dieting, because they have depleted normal fat reserves. The function of human chorionic gonadotrophin is exclusively to make drastic reduction over a short period of time safe, comfortable and entirely confined to abnormal fat deposits. It is the latter peculiarity which accounts for the relative ease with which patients can hold their weight after this treatment....”(emphasis added)

Am. J. Clinical Nutrition, Sep 1963; 13: 197 - 198. -- Letter To Editor: Dr. A.T.W. Simeons.
Read that passage over and over again until it sinks in. This is a TOTAL explanation of what hCG (or, in our case, Homeopathic-style HCG -- "HHCG") is doing for us. How many of us have heard people scoff at the "500 Calorie/day diet! -- Of COURSE you'd lose weight! Who wouldn't?" -- The differences, as Dr. Simeons explained, are:
VLCD WITHOUT hCG:
1) you are likely to lose MORE weight without it than with it! Hooray! ...or so you might think...
2) very few people can maintain a VLCD for 40 days without hCG. Those that can are "quite exceptional" (rare) and have 'exceptional willpower.' -- which eliminates me right out of the gate!
3) after the 40 days, because you'll have only eliminated muscle (eek!) or normal or structural fat, you'll look gaunt, and,
4) your body will quickly regain the weight to get back to its normal-fat state. Bummer.
But,
VLCD WITH hCG (or, again, as it relates to us with the HHCG spray):
4) you see "drastic" weight reduction
5) it happens quickly (40 days)
6) it's safe
7) it's comfortable
8) it targets abnormal fat
9) precisely because it targets abnormal fat, you maintain your reduction with relative ease
I was so excited to read Dr. Simeons' assesment of hCG -- straight 'from the source's mouth,' if you will. It was a real revelation to me. I just had to share it with you. I hope you find his words helpful in either understanding the protocol for yourself or perhaps helping you explain what's going on and why to someone else.
You don't have to "defend" hCG (HHCG) or the VLCD. If someone tells you, "Well, of COURSE you'll lose weight eating only 500 calories a day!" you can agree with them! (Nothing you do will confuse them more -- except shedding your excess weight!). Tell them, "In fact, Dr. Simeons says you'll probably lose even MORE weight doing it WITHOUT hCG...that is IF you can do it without hCG and IF you have exceptional willpower. I mean, this is 40 days of a very low calorie diet (VLCD), after all! ...but there's an important difference. You see, with HCG in your system, you don't experience any of the discomfort normally experienced on a VLCD."
Then, use Simeons' own admission that hCG alone does not reduce weight. That'll send their eyes rolling like peas in a whistle! With a smile, you can tell them, "It merely makes dropping so much weight not only possible, but also happen quickly, safely, comfortably, correctly, and -- the coup de grâce -- permanently!" After that, you need only to stick to the protocol and let them see for themselves. Your 'picture' will be worth 10,000 words.
I'm reminded of a saying I keep tucked in my heart: "People of integrity expect to be believed. And when they're not, they let time prove them right."
