The question often comes up about whether or not to take (or continue taking) vitamins and supplements. We'll address those below.
MULTIVITAMINS are not necessary and in most cases may compromise your overall results.
First, a bit of perspective from Dr. Simeons:
"Sooner or later most patients express a fear that they may be running out of vitamins or that the restricted diet may make them anemic. On this score the physician can confidently relieve their apprehension by explaining that every time they lose a pound of fatty tissue, which they do almost daily, only the actual fat is burned up; all the vitamins, the proteins, the blood, and the minerals which this tissue contains in abundance are fed back into the body. Actually, a low blood count not due to any serious disorder of the blood forming tissues improves during treatment, and we have never encountered a significant protein deficiency nor signs of a lack of vitamins in patients who are dieting regularly." (emphasis added) --Pounds & Inches, p. 21
and
Other Reasons for a Gain
“Apart from diet and cosmetics there can be a few other reasons for a small rise in weight. Some patients unwittingly take chewing gum, throat pastilles, vitamin pills, cough syrups etc., without realizing that the sugar or fats they contain may interfere with a regular loss of weight. Sex hormones or cortisone in its various modern forms must be avoided, though oral contraceptives are permitted." (emphasis added)--Pounds & Inches, p. 25

If you do decide that you need to take a multivitamin or supplement you MUST MAKE CERTAIN it doesn't have sugars, fat or other starchy fillers in them. Sadly, many do!

FISH OILS/EFAs
Any fish oil (so-called Essential Fatty Acids -- "EFA"s, Omega 3s, etc.) are not recommended during Phase 2. The oil will likely interfere with the homeopathic-style supplement. We suggest reintroducing them when you enter Phase 3, as they help replenish your immune and healing system after Phase 2.
VITAMIN B-12
A lot of doctors/clinics who prescribe B12 injections with HCG do so because the source of HCG is suspect and doesn't work as well without the added 'boost' of B12 injections. And the reason they do it by injection vs. sublingual is due to the fat in the over-the-counter B12 drops/lozenges.
About this, Rob wrote:
"I would suggest waiting on taking the B12 until you see how things go. I don't think it will be needed for you, and I believe you may find your energy level is very high while on this protocol. Just my 2 cents."
PERMITTED VITAMINS AND SUPPLEMENTS:
Vitamins:
VITAMIN C and D (but none in an oil-based form) are the only "approved" vitamins for the Simeons method during P2.
Minerals:
CALCIUM is also permitted.
POTASSIUM is often used to eliminate the rare occurrence of night leg cramping.
MAGNESIUM (e.g, in Natural Calm®) is often used for those with heightened concerns about regularity.
We see a great deal of "improvement" in energy and vitality by making one simple shift: Adding Sea Salt.
SEA SALT Regular table salt is processed and basically not that great for you, but sea salt has trace minerals that are NECESSARY for your metabolism to function properly. Many have found that a lack of these trace minerals can be the reason for feeling hungry and/or tired. Try doing a sea salt cocktail for a quick fix, and then use sea salt in place of table salt in your diet going forward.

In summary, taking vitamins is optional, but if you do, watch the ingredients. As with anything you put into your mouth during P2 and P3A, you have to watch how or whether they may be affecting your progress. If your progress slows down a bit, but you feel better, that's great, because if you feel lousy but are losing weight faster, that might be a great trade off. It's ultimately your choice. Hopefully you now know enough to make the best decision as you shrink responsibly. :-)
